What is Peppol?

Pan-European Public Procurement On-Line (PEPPOL) is an e-invoicing standard that enables a standardised way of transmitting E-invoices between businesses. E-invoices are completely generated, transmitted and processed digitally with little to no manual processing. It is generated digitally in various accounting software, transmitted electronically through the network to the recipient (buyer) where it is processed automatically, offering the ability of greater digital efficiencies and better cash flow for suppliers.

Singapore’s Adoption

As of 30th October 2020, Singapore has around 27,000 businesses that are already onboarded to PEPPOL network compared to having only 1000 at the start of 2020. PEPPOL standard is also being highly adopted by many countries.

IMDA e-Invoicing Initiative

In 2019, Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) launched the InvoiceNow that is based on PEPPOL standards. In January 2020, Singapore government has also been on-board to receive e-invoices from vendors via Peppol network, this is to encourage businesses to use Peppol as the default invoicing method. ONPEPPOL is also certified by IMDA as PEPPPOL service provider. We are also working closely with IMDA to push the adoption rate of PEPPOL across the nation.

  • What is PEPPOL?

    The PEPPOL E-invoice is an invoice that is completely generated, transmitted and processed digitally with little to no manual processing. It is created digitally in a supplier’s financial system, transmitted electronically through the network to the recipient (buyer) where it is processed automatically, offering the ability of greater digital efficiencies and better cash flow for suppliers.

  • Currently invoices are hardcopy document that required to be mail to the recipient or a PDF file sent via email. The recipient will then have to key in the details of the invoice into the accounting system manually. With InvoiceNow, invoices will be transacting between businesses accounting system directly without the need of manually transferring the invoice detail to their accounting system.

  • Research has shown with InvoiceNow, it improves on time payment of invoices from 45% to 92%, saving time and money.
    Reduces duplicated effort of finance folks entering in information then printing out the same information to pdf or paper and send it across email or snail mail respectively.
    Reduces human errors which is known to excessively delay processing and costing as much as $72 to rectify a single invoice.
    Lastly it is also more eco-friendly and helps use less paper.

  • Yes, as PEPPOL is an international standard it allows you to send and receive invoices from overseas entities. Do note that this does not exempt you from compliance to any local or international regulations.

  • No, PEPPOL E-invoicing only covers business to business transactions, businesses to consumer transactions are currently not covered.
